SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in Brooklyn is seeking a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor (HS) / Hospitalist. The role includes admitting unassigned adult patients from the Emergency Department and inpatient units, diagnosing and treating medical conditions, and coordinating discharge planning with the care team.

The position emphasizes teaching responsibilities for medical residents and students, mentorship of 2nd-year and 3rd-year trainees, and participation in Hospitalist

Qualifications

  • New York State medical licensure required.
  • Medical Doctor Degree or equivalent.
  • Full training in Internal Medicine.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Admit unassigned adult patients from the ED, MICU and CCU as per service schedules.
  • Diagnose and treat medical conditions in hospitalized adults.
  • Coordinate discharge planning with nursing and social work staff.
  • Provide preoperative consultations and teaching attending duties.
  • Serve as Teaching Attending for residents and students for ~8 months/year.
  • Mentor 2nd-year students in history taking and physical examination.
  • Evaluate 3rd-year medical students.
  • Teach courses to Medical Residents and Students.
  • Participate in Hospitalist Service meetings and hospital administrative tasks.
