Job summary

Infinite Legacy is seeking a Hospital Services Field Trainer in Baltimore to lead onboarding, clinical orientation, and ongoing competency validation across the Hospital Services department. You will provide hands-on instruction, real-time coaching, and performance feedback, while ensuring regulatory compliance and standardized training.

The role requires travel to regional offices and donor hospitals, with day, night, and weekend shifts as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, communications, education, science, or similar field; or Associate’s degree with additional 2 years relevant experience.
  • Professional hospital experience is required, preferably involving critical care, emergency medicine, donor referral, hospital development, or relationship-based coordination.
  • 2 years of formal preceptor, educator, or competency validation experience with observation, evaluation, and feedback.
  • Minimum 4 years in Hospital Services or related nursing/therapist experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Education leadership on comprehensive training for Hospital Services roles, including onboarding and ongoing education.
  • Facilitate field training experiences following SOPs and protocols to ensure knowledge retention and skill development.
  • Develop and deploy curricula for Hospital Services training focused on clinical field experiences and ongoing education.
  • Lead simulation programs with debriefings to review progress towards training goals.
  • Coordinate evaluation and documentation of training, including competency assessments and performance feedback.
  • Monitor readiness for independent practice and escalate training needs when standards aren’t met.
  • Travel throughout the service area to support field-based training activities.

General Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Manager, Education, the Hospital Services Field Trainer is responsible for the implementation, oversight, and evaluation of all Hospital Services department-based onboarding, clinical orientation, competency validation, and ongoing skills development.

This role serves as the primary field-based clinical trainer, providing hands‑on instruction, real‑time coaching, performance evaluation, and process confirmation during case activity. The Hospital Services Field Trainer partners closely with Hospital Services leadership and the Education team to ensure training standardization, regulatory compliance, clinical excellence, and readiness for independent practice.

Utilizing team‑specific data, quality indicators, and performance metrics, the Hospital Services Field Trainer identifies training gaps, supports remediation planning, and contributes to process improvement initiatives that strengthen clinical performance and operational consistency across the department.

Position requires schedule flexibility to include day, night and weekend work shifts, as well as travel to Infinite Legacy regional offices, service area donor hospitals and other venues to facilitate training processes.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, communications, education, science, or a similar field; or in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, Associate’s degree and an additional 2 years of relevant work experience may be considered.
  • Professional experience in a hospital setting is required, preferably involving critical care, emergency medicine, referral management, case management, donor referral processes, hospital development, or relationship‑based healthcare coordination.
  • Demonstrated abilities in both autonomous project management and effective teamwork are required.
  • 2 years of formal preceptor, educator, or competency validation experience, including direct observation, clinical skills evaluation, and documented performance feedback.
  • Minimum of four years in the Hospital Services department or previous nursing, respiratory therapy or applicable OPO experience.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capabilities with the ability to function independently, establish priorities, and manage multiple concurrent responsibilities in a dynamic clinical environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of donor referral processes, clinical screening, hospital partner engagement, donation workflows, and donor case progression. Working knowledge of hospital operations, ICU/ED/OR workflows, physician and nursing engagement, and interdisciplinary communication in acute care settings.
  • Acts with flexibility to maintain order in an environment of changing priorities and be capable of handling highly stressful situations in a calm, professional manner.
  • Demonstrated planning, critical thinking, negotiating, creative problem‑solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to build customer‑service oriented relationships with clients of diverse backgrounds in all areas of a healthcare organization.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and ability to adapt educational approaches to varied learning styles, experience levels, and performance needs.
  • Strong instructional and facilitation skills, including the ability to teach complex clinical concepts, demonstrate technical procedures, and adapt learning strategies to varied experience levels.
  • Demonstrated competency in conducting objective clinical assessments, competency validations, and performance evaluations.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and accreditation standards governing organ and tissue donation and recovery practices.
  • Experience facilitating simulation‑based learning and structured debriefings focused on clinical skill development, communication, and team performance.
  • Ability to analyze training data, performance metrics, and quality indicators to identify skill gaps and implement targeted development plans.
  • Skilled in providing timely, constructive feedback and navigating performance‑based conversations with professionalism and discretion.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document training outcomes clearly and maintain audit‑ready records.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain confidentiality regarding employee performance and sensitive case information.
  • Ability to build collaborative partnerships with departmental leadership, Education, Quality, and operational teams.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Collaborates with the Manager, Education, Clinical Educator, Hospital Services Training Specialist and Hospital Services Team leadership in all aspects of comprehensive training for Hospital Services job roles to include the initial training period, process confirmations, regular competency evaluations, and ongoing education.
  • Facilitates a broad range of field training experiences with team members during initial training period, following established training checklists and clinical SOPs and protocols in a supportive and positive learning environment to encourage knowledge retention and skill development.
  • Develops and deploys curriculum for Hospital Services training and education programs with a focus on clinical field experiences, competencies and ongoing education.
  • Facilitate simulation programs targeted for Hospital Services team members, to include developing clinical and behavioral based scenarios, leading training sessions, providing debriefing venue to review progress towards training goals and offering constructive feedback.
  • Collaborates in all aspects of the evaluation and documentation of team member training, to include progress check‑ins, competency assessments, focused individual training needs, as well as completing all associated documentation.
  • Collaborates with Manager, Education and Hospital Services leadership in determining readiness for independent practice, identifying the need for additional training, and escalating performance concerns when clinical competency or regulatory compliance standards are not met.
  • Monitors the performance of new employees during their initial training period, to assess any gaps in training retention or behavior and provide timely feedback to Education, Hospital Services and Human Resources leadership, as indicated.
  • Serves as a clinical subject matter expert (SME), with special focus on hospital services related clinical and relationship‑based processes.
  • Participates in a work schedule that prioritizes field experiences, case activity sign‑offs, and process confirmation activities, based on training needs of team members.
  • Collaborates with Education Team in facilitating workshops, hospital in‑services, partner education activities and training modules related to referral management, hospital development, donor identification, communication best practices, and applicable SOPs.
  • Participates in tracking, analysis and reporting of data elements associated with Hospital Services training metrics. In conjunction with the Vice President of External Affairs and Education and other leadership, participates in on‑going data analysis to target specific areas for improvement.
  • Analyzes training needs assessments using a variety of sources, such as employee feedback, training metrics, non‑conformances, process confirmation, and testing tools in support of identifying gaps in training, skills, and performance.
  • Participates in ongoing initiatives with assigned personnel to track and measure competency for new and tenured team members via the use of meaningful metrics, innovative learning modalities, process confirmation, and ongoing competency maintenance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
