Job summary

Western State Hospital in Staunton, VA is seeking a full-time Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacists by preparing medications for dispensing across wards, treatment malls, and clinics, using the One Mind EMR and BD Pyxis automation.

The position requires a Virginia-registered CPhT and hospital/retail experience, with strong order-interpretation and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment. After-hours coverage may be required, with competitive benefits provided.

Qualifications

• Must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) recognized by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board OR be eligible to sit for the exam and obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
• Registered with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy (VaBOP) as a pharmacy technician.
• Ability to read and interpret prescriber medication orders accurately.
• Familiarity with generic and trade names of medications.

Responsibilities

• Process and manage medication orders in the One Mind EMR, including new orders, modifications, LOA orders, refills, and supplemental drug requests.
• Operate BD Pyxis ES MedStation systems to stock, restock, and manage automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs).
• Perform medication repackaging using the iPack system for safe, accurate dispensing.
• Execute operational functions of ADCs, including reconciliation and restocking.
• Process Medicare Part-D billing tasks in line with pharmacy requirements.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area with proper postings and workstation standards.
• Conduct monthly ward inspections of medication rooms for compliance.
• Support after-hours ADC operations and night cabinet reconciliation.
• Demonstrate initiative and communicate effectively with pharmacy and hospital staff.
• Handle medication ordering and receipt through Cardinal Health and maintain compliance training.
