Job summary

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is seeking an Operating Engineer to independently perform journeyman-level duties in the energy plant and hospital systems, ensuring safe, efficient operation and occupant comfort. You will design, install, and maintain building systems, monitor equipment, and recommend improvements for optimal performance.

The role requires strong technical expertise, a safety-focused mindset, and autonomous work with high operational standards.

Qualifications

• Two years of vocational/technical training (including courses in mechanics, electricity, and electronics) and minimum of five years of recent related work experience that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge, skills and abilities.
• Boiler Operator certification: WA, upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains boilers and related equipment (ventilating, refrigeration, air conditioning machinery, generators, pumps, compressors).
• Reads gauges to monitor water level, steam pressure, valve operation, and auxiliary pumps; starts/stops pumps; regulates water level and combustion.
• Maintains a logbook detailing boiler/pumping system operation and documents maintenance work performed.
• Alerts personnel to safety hazards and follows safe procedures.
