Job summary

UPMC Altoona is seeking a full-time Housekeeping staff member for the dayshift from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with weekend and holiday rotation. The starting pay for this position is $14.64 per hour.

This role involves operating departmental equipment, cleaning patient areas, and maintaining hospital sanitation standards. Responsibilities include cleaning patient rooms and common areas, handling waste per infection control guidelines, and ensuring equipment is properly stored after use.

Responsibilities

• Operate all departmental equipment safely and maintain equipment after use.
• Climb ladders to hang cubicle/window drapes for cleaning.
• Clean and service hospital areas, move furniture and supplies as needed.
• Wash walls, ceilings, windows by hand or machine; clean fixtures.
• Move files and assist with heavy equipment as directed.
• Use chemicals safely per guidelines; wear PPE as required.
• Disinfect areas using approved germicide cleaners.
• Clean patient rooms after transfers or discharges per infection control procedures.
• Collect regular and infectious waste per guidelines.
• Clean sinks, tubs, mirrors; service dispensers.
• Complete daily quality checks and communicate improvements.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and scrub floors and stairways.
• Receive daily assignments and manage supplies; return unused items.
• Perform repetitive cleaning tasks maintaining sanitary areas.
• Prepare cleaning supplies and equipment for assigned areas.
• Make discharge beds with fresh linen; request help for heavy moves; report shortages.
