Job summary

MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center is seeking a part-time Environmental Services Associate for the day shift. The role focuses on keeping patient care areas clean, safe, and hospitable, ensuring high standards of infection prevention and environmental hygiene.

Responsibilities include disinfecting areas, handling waste, and preparing rooms for new patients while maintaining policies. Strong communication and adherence to safety procedures are essential to support a positive patient experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality in matters relating to patients, visitors, and staff.
• Follow written and verbal instructions and communicate by telephone in English.
• Basic computer skills required: e-mail, scheduling systems, etc.

Responsibilities

• Disinfect patient treatment, invasive care areas, staff and visitor areas to maximize infection prevention and patient safety.
• Collect, store, and dispose of general medical, biohazard, pharmaceutical, chemotherapy, sharps, and soiled linen waste per policies.
• Clean remodeled or new areas and prepare them for occupancy.
• Perform project work: cubicle curtain changes, floor refinishing, carpet cleaning, wall washing, refrigerator cleaning.
• Prepare patient rooms and support areas for new patients including disinfection, bed making, floor care, and replenishment of supplies.
• Interact with patients and visitors to provide directions, hospital information, and general hospitality.
