Job summary

Hartford HealthCare in Manchester, CT is hiring a Cook II to prepare and serve high quality meals to patients and customers in a hospital setting. You will follow HACCP procedures, portion and package food, and help maintain a clean, safe kitchen.

Responsibilities include receiving order instructions, calibrating thermometers, and assisting the Executive Chef with training cooks. A high school diploma is desirable; Serve Safe preferred and ongoing education is provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is acceptable; Serve Safe preferred.
• Serve Safe certification preferred; if not, must obtain QFO within 30 days.
• Culinary degree strongly preferred but not required.
• Annual mandatory education and departmental training.
• Five or more years of culinary experience in a health care environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Portioning and packaging food items.
• Preparing and cooking high quality hot and cold foods for patients and customers.
• Slicing and cutting food products following recipes.
• Completing HACCP and production paperwork.
• Taking temperatures and calibrating thermometers.
• Setting up hot foods to maximize presentation.
• Communicating recipe ingredients and portion sizes to servers.
• Safe use and maintenance of production equipment.
• Proper storage of leftovers per HACCP procedures.
• Assist Executive Chef with training and education of cooks.
• Maintain cleanliness of cafeteria and kitchen.
