Qualifications

• MD or DO with Board Certification in Addiction Medicine, or
• Board Certification in Addiction Psychiatry, or
• Board-Certified Psychiatrist with experience in treating substance use disorders

Responsibilities

• Provide addiction medicine consultations for hospitalized patients on medical/surgical units, ED, labor and delivery, and inpatient psychiatric units
• Assess hospitalized patients to evaluate and confirm substance use disorder diagnoses
• Provide evidence-based medical management of withdrawal syndromes (alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines)
• Initiate and manage medication-assisted treatment (MAT/MOUD) and other evidence-based addiction interventions
• Deliver harm reduction counseling and education
• Develop individualized treatment recommendations aligned with patient goals
• Assist with transitions of care and linkage to community treatment programs
• Provide timely documentation and communicate with primary treatment teams
• Collaborate with hospitalists, emergency medicine physicians, psychiatrists, medical specialists, pharmacists, nurses, case managers, social workers, counselors, and peer recovery mentors
• Educate medical residents and staff on best practices for substance use disorders
