Job summary

Ascend Hospice in Somerville, NJ is seeking a compassionate Chaplain to provide spiritual and emotional support to patients and families within end-of-life care. The role involves collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, honoring diverse beliefs, and coordinating bereavement services.

Travel across the Somerset, Warren, Hunterdon, Union counties and parts of Middlesex is required. Two to four years of hospice chaplain experience and a Master’s in Divinity with CPE are preferred.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Divinity is required.
• 2–4 years of chaplain experience, preferably in hospice or end-of-life care.
• Completion of at least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).
• Ability to provide inclusive, non-denominational spiritual care.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized spiritual counseling that respects patient and family beliefs and preferences.
• Complete timely spiritual assessments and develop individualized care plans.
• Support patients and families of all backgrounds, including those with no religious affiliation.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to address spiritual and emotional needs.
• Provide bereavement support and follow-up services to families.
• Respond to patient and family needs with empathy, professionalism, and respect.

Location: Somerville, NJ 08876
Coverage Area: Primarily Somerset, Warren, Hunterdon, and Union counties, as well as parts of Middlesex County. Travel throughout the assigned service area is required.
