Job summary

The Greensboro Science Center is seeking a Horticulturist to join the Horticulture Department, focusing on general outdoor campus landscape and exhibited garden maintenance. Responsibilities include irrigation, planting, pruning, pest management, and development of new botanical spaces.

The successful candidate will coordinate with animal care staff on exhibit botanicals and work within a team of horticulturists, groundskeepers, and volunteers, with a weekday schedule preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include a high school degree or equivalent G.E.D. and 1-2 years of work experience in landscaping or the horticultural field.
• Key certifications, associate’s or bachelor’s degree in horticulture, biology, the plant sciences, related environmental science or equivalent years in work experience is desired.
• Experience in arboriculture is a plus.
• Must have a valid North Carolina driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Maintain general outdoor campus landscape and exhibited garden zones.
• Troubleshoot landscape needs and assist with development of new botanical spaces.
• Irrigation work, mulching, seasonal planting and care, pest and disease management.
• Schedule seasonal treatments and fertilization; pruning, trimming, composting; browse collection and garden implementations.
• Invasive weed control and coordinate with animal care staff for exhibit zone botanicals.
• Collaborate with horticulturists, groundskeeping staff and volunteers to achieve goals.
