Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a horticulture program supervisor to plan, monitor and supervise a horticulture program for inmates at the assigned site and other locations. You will work with inmates on grounds maintenance, landscape installation, and seasonal color while ensuring equipment is maintained and safety protocols are followed.

Responsibilities include supervising inmate participants, managing inventory of chemicals and tools, and establishing a greenhouse;

Qualifications

• High school diploma with custodial/groundskeeping or maintenance experience directly related to the area of employment.
• A horticulture degree focusing on the science and art of growing and managing plants.
• Must possess or obtain SC Applicator's Pesticide License within first year of employment.
• Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

• Provide supervision and instruction to inmate participants/assigned staff for the care of complex grounds concerning landscape installation, maintenance, vegetable gardening and seasonal color.
• Maintain equipment.
• Responsible for inventory of chemicals, accountable for tools/equipment.
• Responsible for the security of the work area.
• Establish and maintain a greenhouse.
• Assist with special event support.
• Must obtain SC Applicator's Pesticide License within first year of employment.
