Job summary

Lincoln Park Zoo is seeking a horticulturist to support the Director of Horticulture in daily operations and project execution. You will supervise seasonal staff, coordinate cross-department efforts, and maintain irrigation, tools, and plant records to ensure high standards of care across gardens.

The role requires leadership experience in horticulture, ISA Arborist Certification preferred, and a flexible schedule including weekends.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in horticulture or related field; bachelor’s preferred.
• Three years’ practical horticulture and team leadership experience.
• ISA Arborist Certification preferred.
• Comparable education/experience may qualify.

Responsibilities

• Maintain tool and supply inventory; source and order tools, supplies, and plant materials.
• Coordinate interdepartmentally to ensure efficient completion of projects.
• Oversee and schedule horticulture contractors and grounds work.
• Manage irrigation system maintenance and repair; maintain schedules.
• Maintain pesticide applicator license and chemical-use log.
• Lead semiweekly volunteer gardening crews and track attendance.
• Perform lawn care and maintenance of lawn care equipment.
• Maintain green roofs; create yearly maintenance calendar.
