Job summary

The World Equestrian Center in Ocala, FL is seeking an Assistant Horticulturist to lead landscape maintenance, irrigation, and plant health management across the grounds. This hands-on role requires coordinating seasonal color, IPM programs, and contractor performance to uphold the highest standards of appearance.

Ideal candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in plant science or related field and 3–5 years of experience, with a valid driver’s license and Florida pesticide license within 90 days

Qualifications

• Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in plant science, horticultural science, or agricultural sciences.
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years of related work experience.
• Possess a valid driver’s license.
• Possess or can obtain a Florida Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s License within the first 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee landscape installation, maintenance, and enhancement across the property.
• Manage a comprehensive grounds maintenance program including irrigation, fertilization, pruning, and seasonal cleanup.
• Implement and grow the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program for pests, diseases, and weeds.
• Coordinate seasonal flower displays with two annual color change-outs.
• Monitor irrigation systems and ensure proper watering for all plantings.
• Supervise landscape contractors and ensure work quality meets standards.
• Develop winter plant protection plans and coordinate frost protection activities.
