American Boring INC in Carroll, OH is seeking an experienced Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) Operator to safely and efficiently operate HDD equipment on underground utility and fiber installation projects.

The ideal candidate has at least 1 year of HDD operating or locating experience, strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions with a commitment to safety.

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) Operator to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating horizontal directional drilling equipment safely and efficiently for underground utility and fiber installation projects. The ideal candidate will have experience operating heavy equipment, a strong understanding of underground utilities, and the ability to work effectively in outdoor construction environments.

This is a full-time position offering competitive pay, benefits, and mostly 4-day work weeks depending on project schedules.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment and related machinery


• Perform drilling operations according to project plans and utility requirements


• Maintain awareness of existing underground utilities and job site hazards


• Load and unload equipment, materials, and tools as needed


• Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and minor repairs on drilling equipment


• Troubleshoot equipment or operational issues in the field


• Work closely with locators and crew members to complete projects efficiently and safely


• Follow all OSHA and company safety procedures


• Assist with general construction and job site duties as required

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of experience operating HDD equipment or locating required


• Proficient in horizontal directional drilling operations


• Working knowledge of HDD locating equipment preferred, but not required


• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills


• Knowledge of underground utility installation and safe digging practices


• Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently


• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions


• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills


• Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy materials and equipment


• Reliable transportation and ability to commute to Carroll, OH required
