Hopelab Artist-in-Residence Program →

CA For The Arts; United States; Hybrid; Full time

Job description

Hopelab is launching its inaugural artist residency, inviting four emerging artists to help reimagine what youth well-being can look and feel like. Over three months, residents will receive mentorship, resources, and a week-long retreat at the Djerassi Resident Artists Program.

Who We're Looking For

We hope to assemble a diverse cohort of emerging artists, aged 18–29, located anywhere in the United States, who:

• Work in one or multiple of the following media: writing (poetry and fiction), visual arts (painting, drawing, photography, mixed media), and media arts (music, sound, film, video)
• Are exploring the intersections of art, liberatory mental health, and well-being
• Come from communities historically underserved by mental health systems
• Are rooted in a community or movement, such as your neighborhoods, organizing traditions, cultural communities, mutual aid, or collective care practices.
• Have a creative vision and are actively developing a body of work or practice that reflects both lived experiences and a point of view about the world you want to help build
• Are available to spend a week at the Djerassi Artist Residency Program on October 5-11, 2026
• Are available to build community with the artist cohort during biweekly check-ins and guest lectures
• Are available for a public showcase in San Francisco on or around November 5, 2026

We seek applications from emerging artists, for whom the residency might help provide resources and space to complete or create new work.

No degree or prior institutional recognition required. What matters is the clarity of your vision and commitment.

Selection centers lived experience, rootedness in community, clarity of artistic vision, and commitment to the full residency.
