Home Health Aide (HHA)

Position Scope:

The Home Health Aide (HHA) will perform various resident care activities and related nonprofessional services essential to caring for personal needs and comfort of residents; including routine personal care, recreational programming, housekeeping, and meal service in accordance with company standards and federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations and as directed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Carries out daily plan of care including all aspects of basic daily living and personal care needs.

  • Listens and responds to the needs of residents and staff members.
  • Monitors residents’ general medical condition and reports changes to the appropriate nurse and manager.
  • Respect and encourage the independence and dignity of residents.
  • Maintains current and accurate records through use of computers and/or other documentation in accordance with company standards and federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Attend all-employee and departmental meetings and in-service training as scheduled or as directed.
  • Assist in maintaining a calm atmosphere.
  • Report any unusual behavior of a resident to the Assisted Living Manager or Memory Care Manager.
  • Learns, understands, and maintains residents’ rights.
  • Follows established infection control and standard precaution policies, fire, and safety policies, and practices good body mechanics.
  • Performs other duties consistent with the position as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education: high school or equivalent.
  • One (1) years' experience in long-term care preferred.
  • Minnesota Home Health Aide (HHA) certification required, including completion of a minimum 75-hour training program with at least 16 hours of supervised practical training under the oversight of a registered nurse, in accordance with Minnesota home care law and federal home health aide training standards.
  • CPR certified preferred.
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Walk/Stand/Sitting - must be able to continuously perform duties that incorporate walking, standing, or sitting.
  • Environment Condition - must be able to perform work both inside and outside.
  • Lift - constantly 0 - 10 pounds, frequently 11 - 50 pounds, occasionally 51 - 100 pounds.
  • Carry - constantly 0 - 10 pounds, frequently 11 - 50 pounds, occasionally 51 - 100 pounds.
  • Push - constantly 0 - 10 pounds, frequently 11 - 50 pounds, occasionally 51 - 100 pounds.
  • Climb - must be able to climb stairs on a frequent basis, with the opportunity to utilize the elevator as an alternate resource if available.
  • Bend - must be able to bend at the waist, knees, hips and spine on a frequent basis, may require frequently manipulating weights of 25 pounds or more.
  • Twist or rotate - must be able to twist or rotate occasionally at the trunk, hips, knees, and neck, manipulating weights of 25 pounds or more.
  • Reach - may occasionally reach overhead, requiring manipulation of weight of 10 pounds or less, and below waist manipulating weight of 25 pounds or more.
  • Sensory Vision - must be able to read clearly with or without corrective lenses.
  • Hear - Must be able to hear telephone, audible alarms, bells, and signals related to resident safety with or without hearing devices.
  • Speech/Language - must have strong command of English sufficient to read and write and interpret medical and administration information.
