Job summary

RR Donnelley & Sons in Austell, GA, seeks a forklift operator to move finished goods, supply materials, and stage products for shipping. You will maintain inventory, handle by-products, and perform daily safety inspections under supervision.

The role requires operating forklifts in tight spaces, loading/unloading, and adhering to safety policies. Overtime and location-specific shifts may apply as part of the manufacturing team.

Qualifications

• Must know forklift truck dimensions and load capacity
• Ability to judge doorway/aisle clearance for forklift operation
• Knowledge of storage area layout to locate items without instruction
• Skilled at maneuvering forklifts in tight spaces
• Experience operating hoist and clamp trucks
• Ability to operate forklifts in ramps, narrow aisles, and around RR cars/trucks
• Ability to assess load balance and forklift capability

Job Description

• Operates equipment to move finished product for shipping or storage
• Supplies Manufacturing Department with materials as needed
• Stages product to be moved or shipped
• Racks unused supplies and maintains an inventory of type, amount and location of items
• Transports and process manufacturing paper by-products
• Empties trash hoppers and performs other housekeeping duties as needed
• Performs routine daily inspections on hoist and assures maintenance needs are reported
• May include battery service duties such as inspecting, recharging and replacing batteries of electrical leads and battery poles and lubricating truck's moving parts
• May include changing LP/Propane
• Adheres to and promotes all safety policies and procedures including, but not limited to the proper handling of hazardous waste, lock out-tag out rules and hearing and eye protection policies
• Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned

Qualifications

• Must know how high, wide, and long the fork lift truck and its load are, and how much the fork lift truck can lift
• Ability to identify how high and wide a doorway and an aisle must be to drive the fork lift truck and its load; how high and wide the shelf, bin, etc., must be to place the load; and how high the load must be lifted to reach the shelf or bin
• Knowledge of the layout of the storage area to be able to find and place items without need for detailed instructions
• Skilled in moving fork lift trucks about in places where there is very little room to stack or remove loads
• Greater knowledge and skill than Hoist Operator 1 in the handling of controls for driving fork lift and/or clamp trucks
• Must be skilled in handling controls for starting, stopping, backings, and driving fork lift trucks through narrow aisles in building, up and down ramps, and in and out of railroad cars, trucks, etc.; and, for lifting, lowering, and tilting forks by moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate controls
• Must be able to recognize whether the fork lift truck is able to lift the load and whether the load is properly balanced

Additional Information

The salary range for this role at the noted RRD location is $16.07-$20.99/hour. Starting pay decisions are determined based on multiple factors including but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, skills, experience, certifications, proficiency, performance, shift, location, and other business needs. Typically, roles follow step progressions to a target rate or set increments over time. Depending on the role , in addition to the hourly rate of pay, the total compensation package may also include overtime, shift differential, call-in, and/or stand-by pay.
