Reports to: School Principal

Position Type: Full-Time 2025-26

Salary: Based on the BEA licensed salary schedule and commensurate with experience and education.

Job Summary

Bandon School District 54 is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Middle School English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will support students in grades 6–8 in developing strong reading, writing, and analytical thinking skills. We are looking for a teacher who is committed to equity, culturally responsive teaching, and engaging instruction that supports all learners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality English Language Arts instruction aligned with Oregon State Standards.
  • Develop lesson plans that promote literacy, composition, grammar, vocabulary, and literature analysis.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment that promotes student engagement and voice.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning styles, needs, and backgrounds of students.
  • Integrate instructional technology to enhance learning and digital literacy.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in professional learning communities (PLCs) to align curriculum and share best practices.
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with students, families, and school staff.
  • Participate in school events, family conferences, and professional development activities.
  • Comply with district, state, and federal policies, procedures, and reporting requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field.
  • License: Valid Oregon TSPC teaching license with an endorsement in Middle-Level Language Arts or English/Language Arts (grades 5–9 or 6–12).
  • Background Check: Ability to pass a criminal background check and fingerprint clearance as required by Oregon law.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching middle school students in diverse educational settings.
  • Training in equity-focused instruction and trauma-informed practices.
  • Familiarity with Oregon’s ELA standards and SBAC (Smarter Balanced Assessment).
  • Bilingual or multilingual candidates encouraged to apply.
Working Conditions
  • Typical classroom environment with occasional duties outside of regular school hours.
  • May involve supervision of students during non-instructional times (e.g., lunch, passing periods).
  • Involves regular use of computers, digital curriculum tools, and educational software.
