Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program with certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years of Clinical Medical Assistant experience preferred.
  • Valid Alabama Driver’s License with insurable driving record.
  • Ability to drive the Mobile Health Unit.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct health assessments including vital signs and medical history.
  • Administer point-of-care HIV screenings and provide counseling.
  • Perform blood glucose, blood pressure, and BMI screenings.
  • Link high-risk patients to providers for care.
  • Provide care management and address barriers to care.
  • Assist with appointment scheduling and updating contact information.
  • Support PrEP inreach and outreach education.
  • Assist patients with securing PrEP and adherence.
  • Maintain patient records and required reports.
  • Complete assessments in program database and document in EHR.
  • Maintain Mobile Health Unit sterilization and upkeep.
  • Travel to community events and outreach locations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and community-focused Prevention Specialist to support the implementation of our HIV and Prevention Services programs. This position works in partnership with the HIV/Prevention Services Manager to deliver high-quality preventive care, screenings, and education both on-site and in the community.

The Prevention Specialist plays a critical role in expanding access to care by providing screenings through our Mobile Health Unit (MHU) and at community events. This role also supports patients in accessing PrEP services, improving medication adherence, and overcoming barriers to care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments when appropriate, including vital signs and medical history collection
  • Administer point-of-care HIV screenings and provide results with counseling
  • Perform blood glucose, blood pressure, and BMI screenings
  • Link high-risk patients or individuals without a primary care provider to appropriate providers for further evaluation and treatment
  • Provide care management by assessing patient needs and addressing barriers to care
  • Assist patients with appointment scheduling, updating contact information, and navigating healthcare concerns
  • Support PrEP inreach and outreach education initiatives
  • Assist patients with securing PrEP, medication adherence, and retention in care
  • Maintain accurate patient records, documentation, and required reports
  • Complete patient assessments in program database and document appropriately in the EHR
  • Maintain sterilization, upkeep, and organization of the Mobile Health Unit clinical area
  • Travel to community events and outreach locations as required
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program (Certification required)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Clinical Medical Assistant preferred
  • Strong clinical and administrative skills to ensure excellent patient care and efficient operations
  • Valid Alabama Driver’s License with insurable driving record
  • Ability to drive the Mobile Health Unit
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong understanding of community health issues and social determinants of health
  • Ability to deliver culturally sensitive and patient-centered care
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport across diverse populations
  • Willingness to work extensively in a mobile health setting and travel to community sites
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
