Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems is seeking a Histotechnologist Senior to serve as a technical specialist in the histopathology laboratory, performing complex histology and immunohistochemistry procedures under the Histology Supervisor.
You will mentor staff and learners, support quality assurance and regulatory compliance (CAP/CLIA, Joint Commission), manage inventory, and assist with daily operations and validation studies.

The Histotechnologist Senior serves as a technical specialist and resource inthe histopathology laboratory. The position performs complex histology and immunohistochemistry procedures, provides technical oversight and troubleshooting support, and assists with quality assurance, validation activities, and regulatory compliance. The Histotechnologist Senior provides mentorship and training to staff and learners and supports daily laboratory operations under the direction of the Histology Supervisor.
Serve as a technical specialist in the routine histopathology laboratory, special stain or IHC areas. Serve as a technical resource for the team and consult with pathologists on unusual or complex cases.
Responsible for performing and demonstrating competency in complex histologic procedures, staining methodologies, and immunohistochemical techniques.
Perform routine and non-routine histology activities, including tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, H&E staining, special stains, and immunohistochemistry.
Oversee, evaluate, perform, and document test results, quality control, maintenance procedures, troubleshooting, and associated corrective actions according to policy and procedure.
Assist in maintaining laboratory accreditation standards, quality assurance programs, quality control documentation, and compliance with CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission, and other regulatory requirements.
Provide technical teaching, training and guidance to Histotechnologists, students and residents in histology techniques and instrumentation.
Monitors laboratory supplies to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
Assist the Histology Supervisor with monitoring daily histology operations, prioritizing workloads, and delegating tasks.
Participate in the validation and verification of new control materials, reagents,antibodies, and testing methodologies.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education: Associate's Degree or higher in a biological science, or completion of a NAACLS-accredited Histotechnology program.
Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree in Biological Science
Licensure/Certification Required: Certified as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HLT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology or an equivalent certification agency.

Years and Type of Required Experience: Minimum of 3 years of clinical work experience in Histology.
