Penn Medicine is seeking a Group Lead for the Histology Laboratory in New Jersey. The role oversees daily workflow, coordinates staffing, and serves as the primary liaison with pathologists and histology staff.

You will ensure timely distribution of pathology slides, perform complex procedures, and address instrument issues to maintain throughput. Required five years as a Histotechnologist, ASCP, and Histology Technologist credentials, with an Associate's Degree; a Bachelor's is preferred.

Qualifications

  • ASCP certification is required for this Histology role.
  • Associate's Degree is required; Bachelor's preferred.
  • Histology Technologist credential is required or strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate daily histology workflow to ensure timely distribution of slides.
  • Serve as primary contact for pathologists and histology staff inquiries.
  • Troubleshoot instrument failures and coordinate vendor service as needed.
  • Train and assess competency of technical staff; serve as Safety Officer in absence of supervisor.

Schedule: Full-time, Days - 7:00am-3:30pm Mon - Fri

Summary
  • Functions as the Group Lead in the Histology Laboratory. Monitors and coordinates day-to-day workflow for efficiency and continuous throughput. Serves as the primary contact regarding inquiries from Pathologists and Histology staff. Ensures timely and accurate distribution of daily pathology slides. Troubleshoots instrument failures; contacts service if necessary. Ensures all daily QC is performed and documented according to SOPs. Performs complex and routine procedures within the Histopathology Laboratory.
Responsibilities
  • Assesses and coordinates the daily workload and adjusts staffing assignments as needed. Scans, tracks, and distributes slides to the Pathologists; serves as primary point of contact for Pathologist's inquiries. Performs complex procedures within the Histopathology Laboratory, including routine histotechnology, immunohistochemistry, special stains, and cytology preparation. Troubleshoots and corrects instrument failures; contacts service vendor for timely solutions. Responsible for training and competency assessments of technical staff; provides feedback and recommendations to Supervisor. Acts as the Laboratory Safety Officer in the absence of the Pathology Supervisor.

Education or Equivalent Experience
  • At least five (5) years' working as a Histotechnologist

Salary Range

$29.48 - $47.01/Hourly
