Job summary

Quest Diagnostics Incorporated in Cincinnati, OH seeks a Histotechnologist I for Sunday to Thursday night shifts (10:00 PM–6:30 AM). Enjoy a $7,500 sign-on bonus for external applicants, with a pay range starting at $26.97 per hour plus potential shift differentials.

Responsibilities include preparing slides for microscopic evaluation, tissue accessioning, embedding, microtomy, staining, and IHC work, while maintaining QA standards.

Qualifications

• AA or AS degree or equivalent training and experience.
• HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) certification not required as a general skill but is listed under Special Requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologists according to policies and procedures.
• Perform duties of Histotechnician I and II as needed.
• Ensure proper accessioning and labeling of tissue samples.
• Process paperwork related to accessioning and reporting.
• Embed tissue in paraffin and perform microtomy of embedded tissue.
• Prepare slides for H&E staining and cover slips.
• Prepare reagents for special stains and IHC procedures.
• Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment; document remedial actions.
• Follow quality control, safety, and regulatory standards (CLIA, CAP).

Sign-On Bonus - $7500 (External applicants only)

Pay range: $26.97+ per hour; employee may be eligible to receive shift differential of 10% for some or all hours worked on second shift and 15% for some or all hours worked on third shift. Additional details on shift differential will be provided if an offer is extended.

Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Job Responsibilities:

• Perform routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s), according to policies and procedures.
• Capable of performing all the duties/responsibilities of a Histotechnician I and II.
• Ensure proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples.
• Process paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting.
• Ensure proper tissue processing.
• Embed processed tissue in paraffin.
• Perform microtomy of embedded tissue.
• Prepare slides for routine Hematoxylin and Eosin staining.
• Perform cover slipping of stained slides either manually or automated.
• Prepare solutions and reagents for special stain procedures.
• Obtain and validate tissue used in special stains.
• Perform all special stain procedures.
• May prepare solutions and reagents for IHC procedures.
• May obtain and validate control material used in IHC procedures.
• May perform IHC testing.
• Perform filing of finished blocks and slides.
• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment and troubleshoot minor equipment failures. Document remedial actions such as repairs or repeated tests.
• Adhere to laboratory's quality control policies and document all quality control activities.
• Ensure all corporate safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are met.
• Ensure compliance with all local, federal, CLIA and CAP regulations.

Job Requirements

• AA or AS degree or equivalent training and experience
• 1-3 years experience as a Histotechnician
• Special Requirements: HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP)
