Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital in Canton seeks a Histotechnologist to support tissue processing and diagnostic quality. You will work in a collaborative pathology team on immunohistochemical and molecular techniques.

This regular PRN day shift (8:00am-4:30pm) requires a biology-related degree, HT/HTL certification or eligibility, and OSHA knowledge; preferred is hands-on histology experience. Join a world-renowned health system committed to excellence.

Qualifications

• CLIA qualifications for Histotechnologist (HTL) required or eligible.
• ASCP HT/HTL certification or eligibility is required.
• Working knowledge of OSHA chemical hygiene and bloodborne pathogens

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and developmental immunochemistry and molecular laboratory techniques.
• Analyze and evaluate assays for sensitivity and specificity.
• Embed and prepare sections for frozen or paraffin tissue.
• Transport tissue specimens to the laboratory.
• Perform immunohistochemical and in-situ hybridization procedures.
• Mount and distribute prepared microscope slides.
• Prepare reagent buffers, solutions and stains.
• Replace reagents and maintain automated instrumentation.
• File surgical and autopsy blocks used for immunohistochemical techniques.
• Other duties as assigned.

This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working days between 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Perform routine and developmental immunochemistry and molecular laboratory techniques.

• Analyze and evaluate assays for sensitivity and specificity.

• Embed and prepare sections for various procedures by cutting off frozen or paraffin embedded tissue.

• Transport tissue specimens to the laboratory.

• Perform immunohistochemical and in-situ hybridization procedures, including handling and storing probes and antibodies.

• Mount,labeland distribute prepared microscope slides.

• Prepare reagent buffers,solutionsand stains.

• Replace reagents and perform daily maintenance on automated instrumentation.

• File surgical and autopsy blocks used for immunohistochemical techniques.

• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry or a related fieldormeet the CLIA qualifications for Histotechnologist (HTL)

• Histotechnician(HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) certification or certification eligible by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)

• Working knowledge of OSHA requirements concerning chemical hygiene and bloodborne pathogens

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Hands-on laboratory experience from an accredited Histotechnology school or one year of prior histology laboratory experience

• One year of bench experience

Physical Requirements:

• Requires manual dexterity and visual acuity when handling specimens, slides and utilizing instrumentation.

• Ability to safely handle potentially infectious patient specimens, carcinogenic substances, odorous and other hazardous materials to which they may be exposed.

• Typical physical demands include ability to sit, stand or walk extensively.

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
