Job summary

Atrium Health is seeking a qualified histology technician to prepare and analyze tissue samples, perform routine and special stains, and assist with autopsies as needed.

You will handle tissue preparation, embedding, sectioning, staining, and quality control while ensuring patient safety and accuracy in testing. This role requires adherence to lab procedures and PHI/PII protections.

• Must be enrolled in an HT/HTL (ASCP) program and obtain certification within one year of completing program or hire date

• Recognize deviations from expected results and use judgment in determining appropriate actions.

• Prepare and organize tissue specimens and assist in gross examination.
• Prepare specimens to be sent to other laboratories for testing ensuring order accuracy and correct lab is chosen for testing.
• Store or dispose of prepared specimens, slides, and blocks in a neat retrievable manner.
• Complete required daily procedures with accuracy.

Physical Requirements

Works in laboratory with exposure to chemicals, pathogens and patient blood and body fluids. Some latex exposure may be expected. Moderate lifting, pulling, pushing, and carrying. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and on occasion greater than 25 pounds with assistance. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, and reaching. Sitting with use of computer for long periods of time.

Education, Experience And Certifications

Currently enrolled in a HT or HTL (ASCP) program and must obtain certification within one year of completing program or 1 year from hire date; or a certified HT or HTL (ASCP) and 1 year of experience is required or an uncertified HT with 3 at least years of experience is required.
