Job summary

A healthcare provider in Oswego is looking for a Histotechnician to process specimens and prepare slides for the Pathologist. Responsibilities include logging specimens, assisting in examinations, embedding, cutting, and staining tissues, while ensuring accurate labeling and maintaining lab standards. The ideal candidate will have a NYS SED license and an AAS degree as a Histotechnician or Medical Lab Technician. This role includes interacting with a diverse range of patients and requires effective lab management skills.

Responsibilities

• Log surgical specimens accurately using LIS.
• Assist the pathologist during examination of surgical specimens.
• Load and program tissue processors for embedding.
• Embed tissue samples in paraffin accurately.
• Use the microtome to section tissue blocks appropriately.
• Stain tissue slides appropriately and prepare special stains.
• Label slides correctly with appropriate LIS generated labels.
• Assist with frozen sections and special staining where necessary.
• Ensure daily checks on instrument temperatures are recorded.
• Maintain histology lab in an organized and neat manner.
