Job summary

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) year of progressively responsible directly related work experience.
  • Knowledge and technical proficiency in specialty areas assigned within the laboratory.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements related to areas of functional responsibility.
  • Knowledge of mathematics, general science and laboratory techniques.
  • Knowledge of methods of fixing, cutting, and embedding tissue sections.
  • Knowledge of staining procedures and mounting sections for microscopic examination.
  • Ability to operate and maintain medical equipment and apparatuses.
  • Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions and interpret results.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize specimens and tasks to produce a high quality product in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, multi‑task, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to perform tasks according to prescribed procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Cut high quality 1-4 micron sections of small and difficult biopsy specimens.
  • Able to cut 50-75 blocks per day while maintaining a high quality product.
  • Perform routine H&E stains as well as routine special stains.
  • Able to organize and prioritize specimens and tasks to produce a high quality product in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Perform quality control on sections and staining procedures to ensure a high quality finished product.
  • Able to work overtime and cover other shifts as warranted by the department.
  • Able to work in a fast paced, high volume laboratory.
  • Must comply with all applicable health and safety policies.
  • Must be able to prioritize and successfully multitask.
  • Participate in a positive manner in all department meetings.
  • Participate in the rotation as department safety officer.
  • Other work related duties as assigned.
  • Committed to customer satisfaction.

  • Follow written and oral directions.
  • Maintain cooperative and professional attitude when interacting with others both inter- and intradepartmentally.

Compensation

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $48.38 - $54.48 per hour. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
