Job summary

The Department of History at the University of California, Berkeley, invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach courses should an opening arise.

We seek instructors across areas such as Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the History of Science, Technology, and Medicine. Ideal candidates will have a PhD or be near completion and demonstrate strong teaching excellence at undergraduate and graduate levels.

Qualifications

• A PhD (or equivalent international degree), or enrolled in PhD or equivalent international degree-granting program at the time of application.
• A PhD (or equivalent international degree) is required by the start date.
• Preferred qualifications: a PhD in History or related field; demonstrated teaching excellence with undergraduates and, where appropriate, graduate students.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses in history across areas identified by the department.
• Hold regular office hours, calculate grades, and advise students.
• Prepare course materials, manage GSIs, and attend meetings or orientations.
