Job summary

The Traditional Trades Advancement Program (TTAP) at Great Smoky Mountains National Park offers a 26-week, hands-on experience to build preservation trade skills under experienced NPS staff. Located in Gatlinburg, TN, participants gain practical training in masonry, carpentry, window restoration and more while exploring a career in national parks.

Compensation includes a bi-weekly living allowance and travel support.

Qualifications

• Interest in historic preservation trades and continuing into the trades field.
• Age restrictions: 18 - 30 (or 35 for Veterans).
• Must be able to commit to the project for 26 weeks (start date flexible).
• Physical effort is heavy to moderate and requires lifting up to 50lbs, unassisted, with safe lifting.
• Ability to commute to meet up location daily.
• Follow all safety rules and participate in ongoing safety culture of the site.

Responsibilities

• Assist roofing projects on structures such as log cabins, barns and wood frame houses.
• Support masonry, log cabin floor repairs, window restoration, and chinking replacement.
• Demonstrate interest in historic preservation and discuss career goals in the field.
