Job summary

Duke Health laboratories in Durham, NC, are seeking a Histology Technologist in the Department of Anatomic Pathology and Digital Analytics at Duke University Hospital. You will perform routine histopathological tests in a clinical laboratory for use in the treatment and diagnosis of disease.

Shift is Monday - Friday, 10:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m., with eligibility for third-shift differential and a $5,000 commitment bonus.

Qualifications

• BS/BA in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
• Must meet CLIA/CAP education requirements established to perform high-complexity testing.
• HTL certification must be obtained within 18 months.
• One year lab experience with BS/BA in Science.
• No experience needed for NAACLS Program.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and special paraffin sections of surgical and autopsy tissue for microscopic examination.
• Examine and describe routine surgical specimens for histologic preparation.
• Prepare equipment and reagents for processing, embedding, microtome cutting and mounting of tissue; perform routine and special staining techniques.
• Label, file, discard and maintain records of tissue samples and containers, tissue processing cassettes, final paraffin blocks and slides.
• Label and record slides of specimens received; provide specimens for microscopic examination and diagnosis by the pathologist.
• Obtain and log specimens from the operating rooms and other areas as required.
• Perform frozen cryostat sectioning.
• Set up equipment, instruments, reagents and apparatus for specific laboratory techniques.
• Perform various Quality Control procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations.
• Utilize various hospital information systems and software.
