Job summary

One Brooklyn Health System Inc. in New York seeks a Histotechnologist to perform complex lab procedures, prepare and test specimens, and support quality control across histology, cytology, and autopsy workflows.

The role requires an associate degree in science or approved histology program (or bachelor's degree or equivalent), at least 1 year of experience and NYS licensure or certification. You will supervise staff, document results, and maintain safety standards.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Science and completion of an approved Histology accredited program; or Bachelor's Degree/equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience and must possess certification or licensure.
• Knowledge of safety and handling of hazardous materials.

Responsibilities

• Receives and processes tissue for histology and cytology; prepares slides for pathologist review.
• Performs grossing of biopsies and small specimens not requiring dissection.
• Uses tissue processors and stainers to prepare histologic slides; embeds tissue for paraffin blocks.
• Sections tissue and frozen sections; maintains worklists and signs out cases with pathologists.
• Maintains and decontaminates microtomes, reagents, and temperature records.
• Performs quality control checks and documentation; escalates QC issues as needed.
• Maintains inventory of reagents and supplies; participates in continuing education and safety training.
