Pay Range: $45/hr

Position Summary

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Saddleback Memorial Medical Center. It is expected that the employee demonstrate behavior consistent with the core values. The employee shall support Saddleback Memorial Medical Center’s strategic plan and the goals and direction of the performance improvement plan.

This position requires preparation of tissue specimens for microscopic examination by the pathologist in an accurate, precise, and timely manner in order to assist the pathologist in providing appropriate quality patient care in the diagnosis of disease. Maintains a working knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures. This knowledge includes the use of specialized instrumentation, Quality Control requirements, and preventative maintenance. Participates in the continuous quality improvement process through professional development, continuing education, research and development, and quality assurance.

Essential Function and Responsibilities of the Job

• Ensures all tissue specimens are prepared in a prompt and timely manner according to established guidelines.


• Properly performs routine and special stains.


• Properly cleans and maintains Histology Department and equipment.


• Oversees Quality Control, Testing Protocols, Instrumentation, and preventative maintenance according to accreditation standards to ensure accurate and efficient operation of the Pathology lab.


• Oversees inventory management in a fiscally responsible manner insuring that adequate supplies are maintained.


• Ensures that Policies and Procedures are updated and reviewed according to accreditation standards.


• Oversees Safety and regulatory compliance.


• Adheres to all policies and procedures relating to the Laboratory and Hospital Compliance Plans. Follows the MHS Code of Conduct.

Schedule

Fridays, Weekend (Either Saturday or Sunday), vacation coverage, and on- call

Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience

• 3-5 years of Histology experience preferred, with acceptable speed and quality of embedding and cutting.


• Strong communication skills required

Education/License/Certification

• College Degree in Science preferred


• Successful completion of histology internship and ASCP registration preferred
