Job summary

Paycom is seeking a Histotechnician/HTL to perform embedding, microtomy, staining and filing in the histology lab. You will embed, cut, and stain tissue according to established procedures and provide back up for Lab Assistant duties.

The role requires attention to detail, ability to work independently, and good communication. Compliance with safety, quality controls, and CLIA/CAP standards is essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree required for histology tasks involving gross examination.
  • Education and training sufficient to meet CLIA 88 requirements for the position.
  • One year of laboratory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Embed, cut, and stain tissue according to designated procedures.
  • Provide back up for Lab Assistant duties.
  • Maintain legible, accurate logs and record testing.
  • Prepare reagents for tissue processing and routine slide staining.
  • Troubleshoot procedures and instrumentation.
  • Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP and safety standards.

Company Conformance StatementsIn the performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees are expected to conform to the following:· Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.· Interact professionally with other employees, customers and suppliers.· Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.· Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.Position purposeThe Histotechnician/HTL main responsibility is to perform all functions in the histology lab to include embedding, microtomy, staining and filing.Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/TasksReasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.· Provide back up for Lab Assistant duties· Gross*, embed, cut, and stain tissue according to designated procedures· Perform all routine and specialized histology tissue, slide prep and staining procedures· Complete assigned workload within prescribed time limit· Prepare reagents for tissue processing and routine slide staining· Maintain legible, accurate complete logs and record of testing· Distributing slides to pathologists· Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment· Troubleshoot procedures and instrumentation· Ensure all corporate safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are met· Ensure compliance with all local, federal, CLIA and CAP regulations· Maintain a clean and well-organized work area· Other duties, as assignedQualificationsEducation:· High school diploma or equivalent required· *Associate’s degree in science or equivalent science education required for Histology Technicians performing gross examination of specimens and other high complexity testing.· Education and training sufficient to support CLIA 88 requirements for the position held. Also, laboratory equipment is used daily.Work EnvironmentThis job operates in professional laboratory environments. Frequent exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals, moving/mechanical parts, sharp objects, blood or body fluids, communicable diseases, computer monitors, repetitive motions. Local travel in the region may be required to another location as needed.
