Job summary

MNGI Digestive Health is seeking a Histology Technician for a full-time position in a pathology lab. The role includes accessioning tissue specimens, assisting pathologists and techs, and processing and embedding samples in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Required: Associate degree in Histology and 1–3 years of histology experience; ASCP certification or eligibility is preferred. The job emphasizes quality assurance, safety, and adherence to CLIA/OSHA guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree as a Histology Technician.
  • One year minimum of Histology experience is required.
  • ASCP certification or eligible.

Responsibilities

  • Accessioning of tissue specimens
  • Assisting Pathologist Assistants/Techs
  • Processing and embedding tissue specimens
  • Microtomy and staining tissue sections
  • Evaluating and recommending adjustments for processes and procedures as part of quality assurance
  • Maintaining equipment in accordance with defined policies and protocols, and logging preventive and remedial maintenance of equipment.
  • Preparing solutions and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures
  • Complies with all laboratory policies and procedures, OSHA and CLIA regulations
  • Following all OSHA and lab safety guidelines and maintains a safe and clean environment by the daily cleaning of work areas, cleaning up spills and all other duties necessary to sustain an appropriate work area
  • General lab organization

Position Details

Schedule: Full-time (40 hours/week) 10am-6:30pm or 12pm-8:30pm with shift differential

Location: Pathology Lab

Salary Range: Starting range $30.12- $37.65/hour (Where an applicant may fall on the salary range will vary based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to experience & education)

Key Responsibilities

Education and/or Experience:
  • Associate degree as a Histology Technician.
  • One year minimum of Histology experience is required.
  • Special stains and immunohistochemistry experience is a plus.
Certifications/Licenses:

ASCP certification or eligible

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to walk, sit, reach overhead, bend to the floor, and may be required to stand for long periods of time. The employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is required to use dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, other clinic equipment, and to possibly perform phlebotomy. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. The employee may be required to lift and transport items up to 50 pounds. Employees may be required to travel to other company locations due to staffing and training needs.

Working Environment

While performing the duties of this position, the employee works in a clinical environment and may be exposed to hazardous chemicals or conditions including exposure to blood or other body fluids. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and training will be provided. The employee is exposed to an computer monitor daily. The employee may be required to travel by automobile and exposed to changing weather conditions while performing the duties of this position. While performing the duties of this position, the employee must be alert to conditions that may impact the safety of patients, employees and visitors.
