Alverno Laboratories in Hoffman Estates is seeking an individual to accession and prepare specimens for gross examination. Responsibilities include performing routine stains, maintaining inventory, and ensuring a healing environment for employees and patients.
The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, with previous laboratory experience preferred. Training in Anatomic Pathology is necessary, and attention to detail is crucial for success in this role.

This individual is responsible for accessioning and preparing specimens for gross examination, maintaining logs and preparing specimens for transport to the histology laboratory. He/she may perform routine and limited special stains for immediate diagnosis. Other duties include weighing and measuring specimens, assisting with the gross, embedding specimens, operating the tissue processor and cutting. He/she will also assist with fine needle aspirates, biopsies, frozen sections, autopsies and cytological specimen preparation and staining to provide data in the functioning of tissue and organs, causes and/or progress of disease. Clerical duties include completing histology computer work, gathering workload data as requested by supervisor and maintaining adequate inventory of supplies as indicated by supervisor. This individual shall maintain a healing environment for employees and patients with a spirit of caring and concern as incorporated in the philosophy of our Catholic healthcare systems while performing all job functions.
