Job summary

Northside Hospital is seeking a HIM Supervisor to support the Health Information Services team in Atlanta and beyond. You will assist in creating and maintaining legal medical records, ensure chart integrity, and coach staff to meet performance goals.

The role emphasizes policy compliance, data accuracy, and collaboration with leadership to resolve regulatory challenges and optimize workflows. Experience with RHIT and supervisory healthcare settings is required.

Qualifications

  • RHIT certification with 1 year supervisory experience, or 3 years in supervisory healthcare setting.
  • Experience with HIM policies and privacy regulations is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the HIS Manager in creating and maintaining the legal medical record per policy.
  • Manage daily operations of the HIM/customer service team including timekeeping, PTO requests, scheduling.
  • Plan and implement procedures to make HIM functions efficient and outcomes-driven.
  • Train, coach, and complete performance evaluations for associates.
  • Communicate obstacles and regulatory challenges to Leadership to meet goals and budgets.
  • Compile data and generate reports for process improvement, productivity and turnaround times.
  • Communicate information and instructions clearly to staff and stakeholders.
  • Ensure discharge not final billed targets are within established goals and collaborate with other HIM managers.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Assists the HIS Manager, with ensuring the legal medical record is created and maintained in accordance with established policy and procedures.
  2. Manages the daily operations of the operations and/or customer service team including time keeping, PTO requests, job aides, and scheduling.
  3. Demonstrates the ability to assess, plan, implement procedures, policies and process in order for the HIM functions to be efficient and outcome driven.
  4. Demonstrates the ability to train, coach, complete performance evaluations and manage associates to peak performance.
  5. Communicates with Leadership any obstacles, regulatory challenges and system deficiencies that prevent HIM from meeting goals, budget or regulations.
  6. Demonstrates the ability to compile data and produce reports for process improvement, productivity monitoring, turnaround times and others as needed.
  7. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, ensuring understanding of the information and instruction.
  8. Monitors, analyzes and develops actions plans to ensure the discharged not final billed is within established goals.
  9. Works collaboratively with other managers in HIM, as needed.
  10. Facilitates chart completion through analysis and suspension procedures. Prepares reports as appropriate for accountability to medical staff including physician case log certifications.
  11. Maintains up to date and accurate policies and procedures related to operations and record integrity.
  12. Demonstrates the ability to identify opportunities for improvement and work with appropriate staff and management to provide and implement the most efficient process.
  13. Demonstrates the ability to solve problems with associates, physicians, other departments and customers, chart errors and amendments.
  14. Ensures that policies and procedures, processes and outcomes are compliant with various regulations related to medical records and the release of protected health information.
  15. Serves as a resource expert for technology used in the department, which includes testing, training and vendor management.
  16. Presents with a professional demeanor at all times and in all correspondence.
  17. Demonstrates the ability to perform special projects as assigned by the Leadership.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
  1. RHIT, with one year supervisory experience in HIS, OR three years experience in a supervisory healthcare setting.
