Douglas County is seeking a Maintenance Worker to operate a range of motorized equipment for road maintenance and construction. The role includes CDL training after hire, on-call winter duties, and seasonal snowplowing responsibilities, with a wage progression as licensure is achieved.
Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent, valid driver’s license, and experience with heavy equipment. The position offers full-time hours and a 40-hour work week with varying shifts seasonally.
The Maintenance Worker serves as an operator of motorized equipment used in the construction, repair, and maintenance of County roadways. The work of the Maintenance Worker involves the safe and efficient operation of those classes of equipment, which include, but are not limited to: trucks, dozers, rollers, graders, excavators, and tri-axle snowplows. The work is performed under the general supervision of a working foreman. CDL training will be provided to those employees in this position hired without required licensure. After successful completion of training and licensure, the employee participates in required DOT, FMCSA, and Douglas County testing to become a Maintenance Worker I. Salary increases from $20.46 to $22.92 Hourly once licensure and testing requirements are satisfied.
This position may require rotating night shifts during the winter season. Availability for evening and weekend callouts during winter snow-plowing operations is required, with occasional weekend work during the summer construction season as needed.

Candidate may work near moving mechanical parts and precarious places and may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. Exposure may cause discomfort and presents a risk of injury. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally moderate. 30-minute response time required for response to weather-related emergencies. Work in varied environmental conditions including temperature extremes, varied air quality, and exposure to construction materials and fumes. Be available for after-hours and weekend work during rain, snow, ice, or other events related to road conditions.
