South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a skilled operator to manage heavy equipment and assist with asphalt paving, drainage installation, and concrete work. You will patch potholes and spread asphalt, while coordinating traffic control for safe work zones.

Requirement includes a valid driver’s license and the plan to obtain a Class A CDL within six months. Applicants may work extended hours during inclement weather or emergencies.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience or an approved equivalence.
• Must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six months of placement.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.

Job Responsibilities

Operates belt loader while doing shoulder maintenance projects. Installs culvert pipe, constructs catch basins and pours concrete. Patches potholes, uses asphalt tools while spreading and leveling asphalt for driveways and paving projects. Flags traffic and assists with setting up and removing traffic control for work zones. Assists in emergency and inclement weather operations may include being available for extended working hours or 12 hour shifts.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather.
