Jobbeschreibung

Operates 10-yard standard dump truck, forklift (tool carrier), and flatbed truck for hauling materials such as asphalt, limestone, dirt, soil, cement, pipe, construction materials, and debris. Operates the AMZ patching machine, asphalt roller and kettle, power tools and hand tools for paving, patching repairs to base and pavement on roads, driveway, crossovers, turn lanes, parking areas, bridge approaches, etc., using hot plant mix, cold plant mix, and bituminous surfacing. Performs a variety of tasks for the Patching Crew related to maintenance operations, including, but not limited to, repairing potholes and base surface failures of roadway using hand tools, hand tamp, placing aggregates, removing and installing mailboxes, cleaning, installing, replacing, and repairing storm drainage pipe and structures, repairing washouts and sinkholes, and clearing trees and obstructions from the right-of-way. Assists other maintenance crews, as needed, with other maintenance operations to complete routine maintenance work and maintenance plans. Places traffic control devices to properly set up a maintenance work zone according to the SCDOT Work Zone Traffic Control Manual and Field Guide. Flags traffic in work zones during road repairs to control flow of traffic to protect workers, general public, and equipment. Assists in tracking and recording daily work performed, including specific accomplishment, work locations, equipment utilization, and quantity of materials used. Removes litter, debris, trees, and dead animals from road and right-of-way. Assists in emergency or inclement weather operations; may include being available for extended hours or 12-hour shifts. Operates both anti-icing and removal equipment (snowplows and sand and salt spreaders) during snow and ice responses on highways and bridges. Performs other related job duties as requested or assigned by supervisor.

There are no minimum training or experience requirements for this classification. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather.
