Position Information

TxDOT is looking for a Transportation Maintenance Tech I or II in the Paris District. This position is at the Hunt County Maintenance Section located in Greenville, TX. Paris District has three core values: Improve our safety, Value our employees, and Preserve our assets.

This job opening is for one Transportation Maintenance Tech I or II depending on business need and applicant's qualifications and experience. Qualification and experience will determine the applicant's position and pay. Performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

The essential duties for the Transportation Maintenance Tech I include:

Assists in identifying, repairing and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs basic welding as needed; as required uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products related to these activities.

Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; assists stranded motorists as required.

Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.

Determines placement of traffic control devices and installs/moves devices.

Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards.

Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.

Maintains picnic and rest areas, rights-of-way, maintenance yards and comfort stations.

Move/picks up litter and roadway debris.

Mows rights-of-way and picnic and rest areas; performs plant and landscape maintenance including trimming trees and brush.

Operates light equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a quarter cubic yard or less, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper, and mower.

Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and completes various required reports including timekeeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, and PMI.

Sands or cleans bridges and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public and performs other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills.

Assists with inspecting maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.

Performs other job responsibilities as assigned

Additional duties for Transportation Maintenance Tech II include:

Serves as the only maintenance contract inspector on a small project.

Assists in inspecting traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices; safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

Maintains construction project records and/or bridge inspection records; processes related paperwork; reviews files for compliance with the bridge inspection Manual of Procedures.

Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs skilled roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.

Operates heavy equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a half cubic yard or more, tractor-trailer haul truck, large dragline, shovel, paint striper, and dump truck.

Identifies, repairs, and installs signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs welding; and uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products.

Inspects routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.

Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems.

Inspects materials, equipment, and production procedures in a manufacturing plant or at point of supply to ensure construction materials meet Department specifications.

Works on a survey crew; operates survey instruments such as theodolite, transit and level, electronic distance meter, and total survey station.

Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Education

Experience for Transportation Maintenance Tech (TMT)

TMT I = No experience required

TMT II = 1 year experience*

*Experience must be in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Licenses and Certifications

• Valid driver’s license at the time of application. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Must have a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License with an "N" Endorsement or have obtained a CDL "A" License, within 180 calendar days from date of employment.
