The Montana Department of Transportation is recruiting a Maintenance Technician in Shelby. This position performs a variety of tasks as a laborer, lead worker, equipment operator, and truck driver for highway maintenance activities. Operates various trucks and heavy equipment to perform culvert placement, installation/cleaning, landslide removal, crack/mastic sealing, fence building, bridge repair, guardrail or sign installation, luminaire maintenance, roadway repair, vegetation and roadside maintenance, pavement marking and striping, and snow and ice control.

Applicants not meeting minimum qualifications may still be considered. MDT is willing to consider a training assignment for individuals with no experience who can obtain a CDL. Training wages may be below the base pay, with conditions outlined at hire.

Applicants must live or relocate within 45 road miles of the Gallatin Gateway Section House and be accessible to the section headquarters.
Top candidates will undergo a practical test and behavioral interview. Driver’s records will be verified, and a release form will be signed for record checks. Compliance with vehicle use policies is required.
This position is posted in accordance with the bargaining unit agreement. Non-bargaining employees may apply, with bargaining unit applicants given preference.
Experience from city, county, or state highway departments may determine level placement and wages.
