Position Title:

Highway Maintenance Tech - CDL Driver / Equipment Operator - Shelby - ( 25140455 )

The Montana Department of Transportation is recruiting a Maintenance Technician in Shelby. This position performs a variety of tasks as a laborer, lead worker, equipment operator, and truck driver for highway maintenance activities. Operates various trucks and heavy equipment to perform culvert placement, installation/cleaning, landslide removal, crack/mastic sealing, fence building, bridge repair, guardrail or sign installation, luminaire maintenance, roadway repair, vegetation and roadside maintenance, pavement marking and striping, and snow and ice control.

• Valid Montana Commercial Operator's License (Class A, Type II) with no restrictions, tank endorsement, and Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC). Applicants with a learner’s permit have 30 days to obtain the full license.

Maintenance Tech Level II ($28.09):

• Requires one (1) year of documented experience with a highway department (city, county, or state) for road maintenance.

Maintenance Tech Level III ($28.59):

• Requires three (3) or more years of documented experience with a highway department for road maintenance.

Applicants not meeting minimum qualifications may still be considered. MDT is willing to consider a training assignment for individuals with no experience who can obtain a CDL. Training wages may be below the base pay, with conditions outlined at hire.

Applicants must live or relocate within 45 road miles of the Gallatin Gateway Section House and be accessible to the section headquarters.
