Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) in Conrad is recruiting Highway Maintenance Technicians to perform a range of laborer to lead work, operating trucks and equipment for highway maintenance tasks. The role offers a career ladder with advancement opportunities.

The position requires a Montana CDL Class A Type II with tank endorsement and MEC. Salary levels I–III range from $29.59 to $30.59 per hour, plus overtime eligibility and state benefits after hire.

Qualifications

• Requires valid Montana Commercial Operators License (Class A, Type II) with tank endorsement and MEC.
• Entry levels require 1–3 years of highway maintenance experience as specified for Technician I–III.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks and heavy equipment for highway maintenance tasks.
• Perform culvert placement and cleaning, landslide removal, crack/mastic sealing, fence building or bridge repair.
• Conduct guardrail or sign installation, luminaire maintenance, roadway repairs and vegetation management.
• Assist with pavement marking and snow/ice control as needed.
