Job summary

The Idaho Transportation Department in Kooskia, Idaho, is seeking a Transportation Technician Apprentice – Highway Maintenance. This 3-5 year career path combines on‑the‑job training and classroom instruction with wage progression at each step.

Starting wage is $21.05–$21.55 per hour, rising to $22.60 after Step 1, $24.14 after Step 2, and $25.83 after Step 3. A Class A CDL must be earned within 60 days of hire; pre‑employment checks and random drug testing are required.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license is required.
• Experience operating vehicles with manual transmissions.

Responsibilities

• Perform entry-level traffic services such as snow plowing, striping, and maintaining signs.
• Perform entry-level technical highway maintenance and engineering work.
• Operate a variety of power tools and light and heavy highway and construction equipment to maintain roadways, signs, bridges and other transportation facilities.
• Conduct routine inspections and field tests on construction and maintenance projects.
• Conduct sample and routine material testing.
