Job summary

Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is seeking a Highway Maintenance Specialist for Parkdale, OR. You will operate heavy and light equipment to maintain roadways, bridges, and structures, and assist with weather-related emergencies and traffic control.

The role supports Parkdale/ Hood River area within the Delivery & Operations Division. Requirements include one year of highway maintenance experience or two years of related work and a valid CDL-A with tanker endorsement.

• Two years of general landscaping, maintenance, mechanical, farming, logging, and/or construction experience or training.

Responsibilities

A day in the life:

• Operate a variety of heavy and light equipment and tools tomaintainand repair various surfaces.
• Assistwith weather related emergencies andoperatesnowplows, deicertrucksand other equipment to clear snow from roadways.
• Perform minor surface repairs including pothole and concrete patching and small inlay work.
• Clear debris, clear brush, mowgrassand spray roadside vegetation.
• Maintain and repair fences, guardrails, concretebarriersand milepost markers.
• Maintain drainage systems, dig and clean ditchesandrepair culverts,inletsand erosion.
• Maintain wooded areas whichincludesreplanting, pruning, thinningor trimming trees,shrubsand groundcover.
• Service and repair tools and motorized equipment.
• Perform minor maintenance including janitorial work, landscaping,paintingand light carpentry.
• Exposure to noise, extreme heights, all weather conditions, heavy equipment,pesticidesand hazardous waste materialsisexpected.
• Must be able to move around rough terrain, bend and stoop for extended periods and may need tolift upto60pounds.
• May need to be available after hours, on weekends and holidays foremergency, on callandweather relatedpurposes.

Special qualifications:

This position requires a maximum45-minuteresponse time to7285 Hwy 35, Parkdale OR 97041 for emergencycall-outs.

You must possess a current, valid commercial driver's license A (CDL-A) with a tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions, no 5th wheel restrictions and no manual transmission restrictions, or have the ability to acquire a class A commercial learner permit within 60 days of hire and a CDL-A with a tanker endorsement and restrictions
