Job summary

Douglas County is seeking a Maintenance Worker to operate heavy highway equipment and perform road maintenance tasks across county routes. CDL training will be provided for applicants hired without licensure; after training and testing, employees advance through DOT/FMCSA requirements and wage increases.

Full-time, 40 hours weekly, with seasonal shifts including early mornings and potential night work during winter plowing.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment preferred; CDL within 3 months.
  • Knowledge of highway maintenance procedures and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain heavy equipment safely as directed.
  • Plow, clear, and sand county routes during winter.
  • Patch road and bridge surface defects and control vegetation.
  • Inspect and maintain culverts and water control features.
  • Direct traffic in work zones and ensure safety.
  • Be on call 24/7 for weather-related events.
