Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development seeks a Mobile Equipment Operator for District 61/Unit 590 in Port Allen, West Baton Rouge Parish. The role focuses on vegetation control along highway rights of way and operating light to heavy equipment with minimal supervision.

Incumbents must have a valid Class A CDL and four years of related road construction/maintenance experience. Training and safety are emphasized across DOTD programs.

Qualifications

• Four years of experience in the construction, maintenance, or repair of roads, bridges, levees, drainage facilities, wharfs, buildings, or grounds.
• Four years of experience in the operation or maintenance of industrial or heavy mobile equipment.
• A valid Class A, Commercial Driver’s License is required prior to appointment.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, trains and assists a maintenance crew in routine maintenance functions (e.g., pothole patching, drainage work, mowing, litter cleanup).
• Supervises all assigned equipment and ensures proper upkeep to minimize downtime and ensure safe operations.
• Supervise a maintenance crew with safety equipment and proper signage at work sites.
• Prepares Daily Work reports, incident or accident reports and may assist in payrolls.
• Conducts Performance Evaluation System sessions and counsels subordinates.
