Job summary

Woolpert is seeking a Sr. Project Manager (Highway Design) to join our Transportation Team in PA.

The role leads dedicated project teams through preliminary engineering and final design for roadway projects, including PennDOT and PA Turnpike work, while serving as a technical lead on portions of assignments. Requirements include a Civil Engineering degree, PA PE license (or ability to obtain within a year), 10–20 years of transportation design experience, and 5–10% travel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Active Pennsylvania PE license or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
  • 10–20 years of transportation design experience (strong preference for roadway experience).
  • Must be able to travel 5–10% to client sites.
  • Knowledge of PennDOT Project Development Process, construction documentation & administration and knowledge in state/local municipalities design process is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage internal and client cross-functional teams.
  • Foster client relationships and pursue new work opportunities.
  • Engage in professional societies and conferences as appropriate.

Position Overview

Woolpert is hiring a Sr. Project Manager (Highway Design) to join our dynamic Transportation Team in one of our PA offices, preference to Harrisburg, PA. This position reports to the Transportation Practice Leader and is responsible for assisting current project managers in the execution of their current projects, developing relationships with our current clients, positioning themselves to manage future projects. Projects managed will be for PennDOT, PA Turnpike Commission and our local government clients where the Project Manager will lead the overall execution of the project while also serving as a technical lead on a portion of the project.

What You Will Do
  • Lead diverse project teams through the development of preliminary engineering and final design, and the delivery of Plans, Specifications and Estimate packages.
  • Lead design or help design complex roadway and transportation projects that require creative solutions. Projects include roadways, bikeways, pedestrian facilities, roundabouts, trails, multi-modal transportation or transportation planning.
  • Perform engineering design tasks such as highway and street design, roadway alignments, roundabout design, roadway grading and modeling, curb ramp design, signing and pavement plan, maintenance and protection of traffic, drainage design, stormwater management design.
  • Perform designs using software including MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), AutoCAD, and/or Civil 3D.
  • Respond to requests for proposals by leading the development of the proposal submission as well as preparing scope, schedule and budget of projects.
  • Ensure deliverables and quality standards are met in accordance with the agreed scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Manage and support internal and client cross-functional teams.
  • Leverage existing relationships and new client and consultant relationships in the pursuit of new work.
  • Actively participate in professional societies, organizations, and conferences by serving on boards, presenting at luncheons or conferences.
What You Will Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Active PE License in Pennsylvania or ability to obtain a Pennsylvania PE license within one year of hire.
  • 10-20 years of experience in transportation design (strong preference for roadway experience).
  • Must be able to travel 5-10% to client sites.
  • Knowledge of PennDOT Project Development Process, construction documentation & administration and knowledge in state, local municipalities design process is a plus.
  • Bentley Open Road Designer or Civil3D experience.
  • Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment; offer constructive feedback and direction to support goals.

Pay Range

$139,200 — $208,800 USD
