Job description
GFT is currently seeking a Civil/Highway Designer to join our Eastern PA highway team.

This hybrid position will be based out of either Valley Forge Office (Audubon, PA), Philadelphia Office, or Lehigh Valley Office (Fogelsville, PA). This is an exciting time to join the GFT team!

What you’ll be challenged to do:

The successful candidate will focus on designing projects for clients such as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, municipalities, and private clients. The candidate will have the opportunity to grow as a civil/highway designer for transportation and municipal projects. You will work with team members to deliver quality design work on time and build client relationships through successful project delivery. In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Performing engineering design tasks for transportation and municipal projects, including studies, preliminary engineering, and final design.
  • Learning about design tools such as MicroStation and Open Roads software.
  • Developing construction contract documents, including plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Establishing relationships with client technical staff and project managers, especially in PennDOT, local governments, and private clients.
  • Gaining knowledge about various aspects of highway and municipal design, including construction staging, stormwater management, traffic signals, highway design, interchange layout, landscaping, utilities, sidewalks/trails, culverts, and bridges.
  • Understanding civil/site design, highway design, stormwater management, utilities, and permitting is desirable but not required.
What you will bring to our firm:
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (EIT) License registered in Pennsylvania or the ability to obtain within 1 year.
What we prefer you bring:
  • 0-5 years of progressive engineering experience in highway and/or civil/site design.
  • Prior experience with Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and/or Pennsylvania Turnpike projects is desirable but not required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to grow in a team environment, demonstrated organizational skills, self-motivation, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $70,000 - $95,000, dependent on experience and geographic location.
