WSP is currently initiating a search for a Transmission Line & Civil Inspector in Nevada. This role is primarily responsible for performing transmission line and civil inspections. It is field‑based, with work in various field offices across the state and approximately half of the time spent in the office and the other half on site at transmission line, substation, or telecommunications sites.

Job Description

Provides high‑voltage (HV) and extra‑high‑voltage (EHV) transmission line inspection and civil inspection support to engineers and project managers. Responsibilities include ensuring electric utility, transmission line, and power delivery construction complies with approved plans, specifications, utility standards, contract documents, and regulatory requirements (including NESC, OSHA, NERC, and utility construction standards). Field inspections cover overhead and underground transmission line construction projects, including structures, foundations, drilled shafts, concrete, conductor stringing, sagging and clipping, insulators, hardware assemblies, grounding systems, ROW access roads, and environmental compliance. May also inspect substation interfaces, underground duct banks, vaults, and high‑voltage cable installations, as well as associated civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical installations. Generates accurate inspection reports, daily logs, non‑conformance documentation, and photo records related to HV/EHV construction and power delivery projects.

Your Impact

• Follow established inspection and QA/QC practices to provide technical assistance and guidance supporting the proper construction, installation, and operation of transmission lines, foundations, structures, access roads, infrastructure, equipment, and associated civil, structural, and electrical systems.
• Act as a field inspection consultant regarding work progress, constructability, and issue resolution; serve as the primary or sole transmission line inspector on assigned projects or assist in overseeing HV/EHV construction inspection activities for projects of moderate scope and complexity.
• Verify load calculations, foundation designs, material quantities, change orders, and contract pay items; interpret and resolve differences related to transmission line plans, profiles, structure details, and construction specifications.
• Monitor project phasing, outage coordination, and contractor work activities to ensure quality control, safety compliance, and adherence to utility and contract requirements; document daily activities, deficiencies, corrective actions, and issues throughout the construction lifecycle.
• Work with cross‑functional teams in executing project work.
• Attend pre‑construction, safety, and coordination meetings; respond to technical questions from contractors, utility representatives, and project stakeholders regarding inspection requirements and construction standards.
• Prepare technical inspection reports summarizing findings and conclusions, producing complete and accurate documentation using photographs, sketches, field measurements, calculations, inspection software, spreadsheets, and 2D/3D technical drawings.
• Support technical staff, project managers, and contractors with risk identification, safety observations, and constructability assessments, providing input and recommendations for mitigation, corrective action, and resolution of complex transmission line construction issues.
• Assist with work plan development, field coordination, staffing reviews, equipment utilization, and time and cost estimates for inspection and construction support activities.
• Coordinate with clients, utilities, and contractors to schedule and manage inspection activities across multiple transmission line work fronts.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 9 years of relevant post‑education experience in a related discipline with demonstrated construction inspection experience on electric utility, power delivery, or transmission line projects, including overhead and/or underground transmission.
• 5+ years of active field experience; computer skills for daily and weekly reporting; photo documentation proficiency; working knowledge of Word and Excel.
• Well‑defined knowledge of construction inspection principles and field inspection practices for HV/EHV transmission line inspection methods, QA/QC procedures, documentation, and compliance verification.
• Strong analytical and technical judgment skills with the ability to evaluate construction conditions, safety concerns, quality issues, compliance risks, and make sound field decisions.
• Travel requirement is based on project location.
• Knowledge of transmission line work, foundations, and stringing of conductors, and transmission substations and facilities is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated self‑leadership and field autonomy, with strong attention to detail, accuracy, documentation quality, multitasking, and prioritization.
• Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to apply technical knowledge, inspection results, testing data, and field observations to reach sound conclusions and recommend practical, economical, and code‑compliant solutions.
• Must have a current and valid driver’s license.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting plans and specifications and comparing them with customer or engineer standards.
• Proficient in verbal and written communication at all levels of the organization.
• Able and willing to travel and stay for a minimum of 6 weeks at a time for a project.
• Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions for up to 12 hours a day.
• Must be able to wear company‑provided PPE for the entire shift while onsite.
• Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs or more at any given time throughout the day.
• Must be able to walk an average of 3 to 5 miles per day across rough terrain and/or unlevel surfaces.
• Ability to step in and out of a 3/4‑ton pickup truck several times a day.
