Job summary

Y-12 National Security Complex is seeking an Electrical Power Technician to inspect, test, repair, fabricate, alter and install a wide range of electrical power and instrumental equipment, including control devices and wiring systems.

You will determine corrective actions and restore service, operate complex test equipment, and work in confined spaces with potential radiological exposure. CNS prioritizes safety, training and career growth with competitive pay and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Trade school or apprenticeship training with four years of applicable industrial electrical and electronics experience or equivalent combination.
  • Complete and qualify in: The Y-12 Power Distribution One-Line course and refresher courses, High Voltage Safety, Carcinogen, and PCB Worker.
  • DOE O 426.2 requirements must be met; personnel may need to obtain/maintain DOE clearance.

Minimum Job Requirements


  • Requires trade school or apprenticeship training with four years of applicable industrial electrical and electronics experience or equivalent combination.

  • Employee will also be required to complete and qualify in: The Y-12 Power Distribution One-Line course and subsequent refresher courses. High Voltage Safety course, Carcinogen, and PCB Worker.

  • In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., 1 year maintenance-related experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative.) DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hirely personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2)


Preferred Job Requirements


  • Four plus years of experience after journeyman status. Experience in medium voltage / distribution and transmission voltage ranges (161 kv, 13.8kv to 5kv) and low voltages from (600 volts to 50 volts AC and up to 130 volts DC).

  • Knowledge of DOE Orders, and state and federal laws pertaining to facility operations; complex system knowledge; major risk management; work planning and controls.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to interface effectively with various organizations.

  • Extra training, or applicable experience documentation.

  • Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of Conduct of Operations, Integrated Safety Management, Y-12 Plant safety documentation, engineering principles, and ES&H regulatory compliance.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.


This position may require entry into the Material Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (10 C.F.R. Part 712), which requires successful competition of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation and may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.
