Job summary

Air Liquide is hiring a High Voltage Technician in Beaumont, TX or Bayport, TX. The role supports maintenance of 138kV/13.2kV substations and 480V systems, with PM and PdM activities, vendor coordination, and safety compliance per NFPA 70E/NEC.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years of HV maintenance experience, strong troubleshooting skills, and a proven ability to mentor staff. Travel to Pasadena area facilities is expected as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years in plant high voltage equipment maintenance.
  • Experience troubleshooting high voltage transmission equipment.
  • Experience in maintenance of high voltage motors.
  • Strong safety practices around HV equipment and NFPA 70E/NEC.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders and work on elevated platforms.
  • Willingness to travel 1–10 days as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance in medium/high voltage systems, motors, substations, and distribution equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair 480V MCC starters, contactors and controls.
  • Ensure reliability and safe operation of 138kV/13.2kV substation.
  • Serve as primary customer contact for substation issues and perform switching operations.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance of electrical equipment and support plant turnarounds.
  • Supervise vendor shop repairs for high voltage equipment and motors.
  • Develop detailed scopes for electrical projects and maintenance activities.
  • Coordinate technicians (Air Liquide and contract) to execute maintenance work.
  • Mentor facility operations staff in electrical systems and controls.
  • Maintain PM program compliance and support scheduling using Maximo.

This role involves a commitment to safety, compliance, and technical expertise within Air Liquide. Responsibilities encompass strict adherence to safety, health, and environmental procedures and standards, such as NFPA 70E and NFPA 70 (NEC). The individual must provide technical assistance in medium/high voltage systems, motors, substations, and distribution equipment along with 480V equipment. Critical responsibilities include managing the reliability and safe operation of a 138kV/13.2kV substation, serving as the primary contact for site electrical matters, and conducting regular inspections. Preventive maintenance and support during facility turnarounds are essential, as is overseeing vendor shop repairs for high voltage equipment and motors. Additionally, the role involves project management, including developing project scopes, coordinating external vendors, and implementing reliability initiatives. The overarching goal is to ensure safety, efficiency, reliability, and quality within the organization's electrical operations.

Location in Beaumont, TX or Bayport, TX would regularly drive to the Pasadena, TX area. (Mileage paid)

Job Responsibilities:
  • Support and comply with all Air Liquide safety, health, and environmental procedures and policies
  • Comply with NFPA 70E and NFPA 70 (NEC) requirements
  • Comply with all training requirements (SmartSolve, Cornerstone CBTs, Corporate, Onsite, Electrical Safety etc.)
  • Provide technical assistance and expertise in the areas of medium/high voltage; synchronous and induction motors, substations, and distribution equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair 480V MCC starters, contactors and controls.
  • Partner with plant operations personnel to resolve electrical issues in steam boilers, water treatment systems, and electrical substation.
  • Ensure reliability and safe operation of 138kV/13.2kV substation
  • Serve as primary customer contact for substation issues and perform switching operations as needed
  • Perform substation rounds (check relays for alarm condition, ensure proper voltage level to customers, inspect substation batteries, climate control systems, etc.)
  • Coordinate and support preventive maintenance (PM) of electrical equipment
  • Support turnarounds as needed at pipeline facilities (ASU, Cogen, H2) by completing PM and PdM work on electrical systems (transformers, breakers, cables, motor control centers, synchronous and induction machines)
  • Guide and collaborate with vendor shop repairs on high voltage equipment and motors to ensure excellent quality standards and adherence to Air Liquide standards
  • Develop detailed scopes for electrical projects and maintenance activity
  • Coordinate technicians, both AL and contract, to execute maintenance work
  • Foster growth through mentoring and training of facility operations and technical staff in understanding the operation and maintenance of electrical systems and controls
  • Maintain 95% or greater compliance in PM program and 100% EIS (Element Important for Safety) PM compliance
  • Committed to advancing and maintaining the schedule for Electrical PM's
  • Ensure proper planning of work orders utilizing Maximo
  • Assist in analysis and follow up on PdM data (thermography, relay and breaker testing, transformer oil/gas test, IR and PI of motors, PD testing etc.)
  • Actively facilitate and contribute to Root Cause Analysis and Vulnerability Studies
  • Develop and modify maintenance strategies based on RCA, VS and Risk Analysis findings
  • Participate in development of annual maintenance schedule, budget and turnaround plans
  • Ensure spare parts are adequately stocked, stored and replenished as needed
  • Work closely with contractors & monitor contractor work quality and cost
  • Contribute suggestions to improve plant safety, efficiency, reliability, and quality

Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • 10 yrs + in plant high voltage equipment maintenance activities
  • Experience in troubleshooting high voltage transmission equipment
  • Experience in troubleshooting and maintenance of high voltage motors
  • Thorough understanding of safety requirements when working around HV equipment
  • Has full range of motion and ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Able to climb ladders and work off elevated platforms/surfaces.
  • Able to work in non-conditioned environment for extended periods.
  • Able to work in flash suit for testing and troubleshooting.
  • Can travel for extended periods of time (1 to 10 days), with little advance warning
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior industrial gas experience.
